Fighting History of SF Chinatown Experience

The Fighting History of SF Chinatown Experience

What you’ll do

You’ll experience the rough and tumble tales of San Francisco’s gold rush era, the Chinese immigrant experience, Bruce Lee, racism, the tong wars, the socioeconomic realities of human trafficking, political corruption, the drug trade, prostitution, and the modern era gang wars. You’ll explore Chinatown’s alleys and streets where it all happened. You’ll gain amazing insight on the past and how it connects to the present. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll discover a deeper appreciation for not only the Chinese immigrant experience but also what it means to be human.

We’ll start our walking tour outside a local coffee shop on the edge of Chinatown and talk for a few minutes before heading into Chinatown. We’ll cover about 1.5 miles total so wear comfortable walking shoes. Total tour time is 2 hours.

WARNING: This tour includes candid discussions of historical events and covers mature subject matter and may not be suitable for children or sensitive adults.

Prior to my consulting practice, I was vice president of creative strategy at the largest brand experience company in the world where I designed learning experiences for a wide range of organizations.

I’ve lived in China and Taiwan for seven years, speak Mandarin, and received my M.A. in China studies (thesis on the Chinese Exclusion Acts). I’m also a longtime resident and lover of San Francisco and the martial arts.

This tour represents the convergence and culmination of my personal passions: storytelling, San Francisco history, the Chinese experience and creating joy and fresh perspective for the seeker in us all.
